Prime Volleyball League: Bengaluru beat Calicut, move closer to Super5s

Chennai: Bengaluru Torpedoes inched closer to a Prime Volleyball League Super5s spot with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Calicut Heroes here on Wednesday.

Bengaluru came back from a set down twice to win 14-16, 19-17, 13-15, 15-10, 15-11 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. Torpedoes moved to third on the table and now have 10 points from seven matches, while Heroes are fifth with eight points off six games.

After TR Sethu came up with a ‘Super Serve’, Bengaluru called for a ‘Super Point’, which Calicut won to pocket the opener. Both teams traded blows towards the end of the second set, before a successful block helped Torpedoes level the contest.

Calicut restored their advantage in the third set, in which Bengaluru saved a set point. Torpedoes won two ‘Super Points’ in a row in the fourth set to come roaring back again. Bengaluru dominated the final set from start to finish – they led 8-4 at the interval. TNN
